About St Margaret’s Bay Beach

St Margaret's has a small sand, shingle and pebble beach set in a bay and backed by white chalk cliffs. Fishing and swimming are popular in the Marine Conservation Society Recommended waters - this is the closest point in England to France, and many Channel swimmers set off from here. Surfing has also recently become popular. At low tide, there are plenty of rock pools to explore. The coastal path leads to the White Cliffs of Dover with stunning views and a chance of spotting the ponies which roam free here.
