This drinking water reservoir covers 3.19 km2 (790 acres) in surface area. The water and most of surrounding woodland is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the extensive wildlife population, particularly bird species. Parts of the woodland and shoreline are available to birdwatchers only by permit; while a bird hide and three marked walking trails covering varying lengths and terrains are open to the public to view the flora and fauna in the area.
The reservoir is also the Midlands’ premier trout fishing site, offering over 17.7 km (11 mi) of bank fishing and power boats for hire for angling and pike fishing. Members and guest day tickets are available.
