A highly popular beach with surfers and families alike, Porthtowan's beach is north west facing and stretches around 2.4 km (1.5 mi) at low tide, so there's plenty of room for leisure and play. It is backed by sand dunes and rugged cliffs. Zoning is in place for water sports which, along with surfing, include canoeing and kayaking, fishing and swimming. Situated in the St Agnes AONB, the beach has also won the Blue Flag Award and is Marine Conservation Society Recommended. Cliff top walks include pathways to St Agnes (to the east) and Portreath (to the west). Walk along the beach to Chapel Porth at low tide only.
