The water quality is acceptable and the beach is considered good for swimming. A whole host of other water sports also takes place here, including sailing, jet skiing, surfing, wind surfing, canoeing and water skiing. Fishing is also popular. For nature lovers, the beach is close to Seaton Common and Dunes Local Nature Reserve and Teesmouth National Nature Reserve. There's also the chance to see common seals on the mudflats at Greatham Creek in summer. The beach holds a Quality Coast Award.
